4 killed at Nunwan

SRINAGAR, June 14: In a tragic road mishap at South Kashmir tourist resort of Pahalgam, four persons were killed when their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into Lidder river last night.
One of the persons survived miraculously as he was thrown out of the front wind shield before the Tavera vehicle they were travelling in rolled into river Lidder while negotiating a curve at Nunwan last night. Police identified him as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat who was admitted to Pahalgam hospital where his condition was declared stable.
The deceased have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar, driver, 24, son of Abdul Ahad Dar of Lajoura, Pulwama, Lateef Ahmad Bhat ,21,  son of Mohammad Akram Bhat, Umar Ahangar, 20, son of Farooq Ahmad Ahangar, Danish Ayoub Bhat, student, 18, son of Mohammad Ayub Bhat, all residents of Puchhal, Pulwama.
The official said that as the vehicle fell into the river, the four men were washed away by the speedy waters of the river and the vehicle was completely damaged.
“The accident took place at 11.30 last night when a Tavera (JK 03 C- 5947) rolled into the river Lidder as it slipped off the road which was slippery due to heavy rainfall, and there was less visibility also because of the mist,” police said.
“The bodies of the four men were washed away by the high-running water of the river. And in the morning, men from Police and Fisheries Department were pressed into action to retrieve their bodies. Two of them were recovered at Batakote early morning and two other bodies at Akad Park in the afternoon,” police said.
The five men had left home to Pahalgam last evening for picnic. As the news of this tragic accident reached here, entire village was shocked. Scores of people rushed to Pahalgam to get bodies of the dead back to the village.
Meanwhile, in a collision between a motorcycle (JK22/0262) and a Tipper (JK13B/6524), near Lassipora, Pulwama, a motorcyclist, Mushtaq Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Rasool of Trenz, Shopian, was injured today, police said. They said Dar was shifted to hospital for treatment.
