DODA, Apr 21: Four persons, including a woman, were killed and five others got critically injured, when the Tata Sumo they were traveling in, skidded off the road and fell into a 150 feet deep gorge near Khellani, here today.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number PB32A-9851 was on its way from Punjab to Gandoh, when the driver lost control over the vehicle on the sloppy curve and it skidded off the road and fell into 150 feet down hill after several somersaults, resulting into serious injuries to nine persons.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and with the help of locals started rescue operation.
All the injured persons were rescued from the badly damaged vehicle and rushed to District Hospital, where doctors declared four passengers as brought dead.
Perhaps the driver was tired due to lack of sleep and lost control over the vehicle on a sharp curve resulting in the fatal accident.
The deceased have been identified as Kadam Hussain, son of Abdul Gani, Haji Ali, Haji Kasam and Bhakya Begum, wife of Hasan Din , all residents of Chilli Gandoh while the injured were identified as Hasan Din (30), son of Ramal Din of Bhalla, Haneefa Banoo (5), daughter of Liyaqat Ali, Liyaqat Ali (35), son of Hasan Din, Shahida Banoo (20), daughter of Abdul Qayoom and Talib Hussain (2), son of Nazir Ahmed, all residents of Chilli, Gandoh.
A case under FIR Number 79/17 under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A RPC has been registered at Doda police station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Raj Bhavan spokesman said that the Governor NN Vohra has expressed grief over the loss of innocent lives in the road accident. In a condolence message, he has conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls. He has wished speedy recovery to the persons injured in this accident. The Raj Bhavan spokesperson said that the Governor has expressed deep concern over the recurring road accidents and re-iterated that every concerned agency must be held accountable for strictly enforcing regulations regarding overloading, over-speeding, condemnation of unfit vehicles and punitive summary fines being imposed on the offenders. He noted that no unqualified and unlicensed person should be allowed to drive any personal, transport or commercial vehicle.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, today expressed grief over the death of precious human lives in a road accident near Khellani in Doda district.
In her condolence message, the Chief Minister conveyed her heart-felt sympathies to the bereaved families in their hour of grief and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. She also wished speedy recovery to those injured in the accident.
