JAMMU, Sept 17: With four more people today testing positive for Dengue virus the total number of patients affected with this vector-borne has reached to nine.
“A total of 20 samples were today tested for Dengue in Microbiology Department of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu out of which four turned out to be positive for Dengue virus”, Hospital sources said.
Sources said that with these four fresh cases of Dengue, the total number of persons affected with this dreaded disease has reached nine, as last week five persons were found to be affected with Dengue virus.
However, they claimed that there is no epidemic like situation in Jammu as out of the four people, who were today tested positive for Dengue, three are students from Jammu studying outside State and perhaps they got infected with Dengue virus there.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent, GMCH Jammu, Dr Ravinder Rattan Pal said that it is true that 20 samples today tested for Dengue in Microbiology Department of the hospital but the results of the tests conducted are awaited and probably will be submitted by the department tomorrow. So, we cannot say anything till we receive any formal report from Microbiology Department.
Meanwhile, Health Department has sounded alert in all hospitals of the region and various steps are being taken to control the spread of this dreaded disease.
A health department doctor said that current spell of dengue might not last long as the health department has initiated steps to prevent and monitor the vector-borne diseases.
“The department has been spreading awareness about the disease and urging people to avoid improper storage of water,” he said adding fogging is being carried out in areas where dengue cases have been reported.
