Fire fighters’ delay leads to casualties

RAMBAN, Nov 29: Delay by fire fighters in reaching the spot resulted into the death of four members of a family and injuries to three others in LPG cylinder blast in Maitra area near here today.
As per police sources, a LPG cylinder kept inside a house behind DC Office in Maitra area caught fire and later blasted. Due to blast, the house caught fire.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the help of locals.
Fire fighters on getting information also reached the spot, but till then the house was damaged and four persons had lost their lives while three others sustained grievous injuries. The injured persons were rushed to District Hospital Ramban.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban Anita Sharma also reached the District Hospital and personally monitored the treatment provided to the injured persons.
Later, the injured persons were referred to Command Hospital Udhampur for specialized treatment.
The deceased were identified as Darshana Devi, wife of Bishan Dass, a resident of Tangar, Ghandhari at present Maitra and her 3 children.
The injured has been identified as Pritam Singh, a resident of Balihote at present Maitra, district Ramban. The identity of two injured children was not ascertained when last reports were compiled.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Ramban Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, the locals expressed concern over the working of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services in district Ramban.
“Fire fighters reached the spot after a delay of over an hour due to which four precious lives were lost. The casualties could have been averted had the fire fighters reached the spot in time”, the locals added.
They also demanded action against the officials of Department of Fire and Emergency Services Ramban involved in delay in reaching the spot, resulting into death of four members of a family and injuries to three others.
