RAMBAN, Dec 28: Four members of a family including three minors were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their native Chopanpora, Chaknarwa village in Banihal, here today.
The deceased included mother, her son and two daughters.
Sources informed that all the four deceased persons were sleeping in kitchen of the house and were found dead in morning.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam said police was on job.
On Wednesday morning, police received information that four members of a family were found dead in the kitchen of their house and a Police team led by SHO, Police Station Banihal Inspector, Mohammad Afzal Wani rushed to the spot and took bodies into custody and shifted them to Sub District Hospital Banihal for post mortem and other legal formalities.
An FSL team also visited the spot and collected circumstantial evidence and samples and sent them to the laboratory for tests.
Police sources said that head of the family Abdul Rasheed Chopan was not present at the home when the incident took place.
Police identified the deceased as Noor Jahaan Begum, 35, wife of Abdul Rashid, her son Zaffer Ahmed, 12, and two daughters, Shahiza Bano, 8, and Asiya Bano, 5.
SSP, Ramban Mohita Sharma while confirming the incident said initial reports suggested all the four may have died due to asphyxiation.
“They might have inhaled carbon monoxide as the deceased have a Bukhari lit at place where they were sleeping,” she said.
However, inquest proceedings have been initiated at Police Station Banihal.
BMO Banihal said the actual cause of death will be ascertained only after the post mortem report is received.
