JAMMU, Mar 4: Rejection of promotion case of four Superintendents of Police (SPs) including one martyr and three retired who remained engaged in anti-militancy operations in Kashmir when the militancy was at its peak, has come as a shock as three of them were expecting decision in their favour by the Government.
A day before, the Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir Government had rejected promotion case of four SPs including Shiv Kumar Chouhan, KS Jasrotia, Tejinder Singh and Varinder Singh Jaipuria.
Jaipuria, it may be mentioned was martyred in terror attack in Rajouri district long back.
Three SPs were expecting the Government order in their favour as they had worked in the Special Task Force and Special Operations Group in Kashmir and other places and had been promised out-of-turn promotions by the then top brass of police along with the martyr when he was in service.
However, three police officers including two hailing from Kashmir and one from Ladakh were given second out-of-turn promotion but all four officers from Jammu region were denied the same without any reason notwithstanding that they were involved in several anti-militancy operations in the Kashmir Valley and other places and had narrow escape in several encounters while Jaipuria had attained martyrdom.
The police officers were confident that the Government would review the decision and accord them second promotion which will help them in post-retirement benefits while the family of martyr will also get more respect.
