JAMMU, Oct 28: In a joint anti- encroachment drive comprising officials of Forest, Police and Revenue Departments in Sidhra, Raika and Mahamaya area, on the outskirts of Jammu city, about 40 kanals of prime forest land, falling in Compartments 65 & 66 of Bahu Forest Range, was retrieved from clutches of five land grabbers today.
Official sources told the Excelsior that the whole operation was carried 2203out by the joint team constituted specifically for the purpose by the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Divisional Forest Officer Jammu alongwith officials of National Highway Authority of India. Most of the area encroached upon lies adjacent to ASCOMS Hospital, Sidhra along the National Highway.
The joint team was led by Duty Magistrate, Rashid Malik Naib-Tehsildar Sidhra and Range Officer Bahu, Vinod Sharma who successfully managed to evict the encroachers who were trying to encroach upon forest land worth crores of rupees but the their attempt was thwarted by timely joint action of all the three agencies.
The police party supporting the team provided active support under the direct supervision of Sub Divisional Police Officer, Nagrota and Sub Divisional Police Officer Narwal for helping in tackling any law and order situation. Despite resistance from the encroachers the operation was smoothly conducted and remained successful.
