Srinagar, Dec 7: The district administration Baramulla today retrieved around 40 kanals of land and demolished two dozen structures in Gulmarg tourist resort.
The land was retrieved by a committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Mohammad Ahsan Mir, and comprising CEO GDA, SDM Gulmarg, Tehsildar Tangmarg, DFO Tangmarg, Executive Officer Municipality Tangmarg, SHO Gulmarg.
The committee was formed by the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, GN Itoo, two week ago following High Court directions.
The 39.19 kanals of land were retrieved today from encroachers including hoteliers and hut owners. The encroached land was handed over to GDA.
The Committee also recovered eight hotels which were constructed unauthorisedly. They include Pine Spring, New Zum Zum, Golf View, Khilan Hut, Pride Resort, Falak Hut, Green Tree Lodge And Bisco Hut. They were sealed and handed over to the GDA.
The committee demolished 10 tin sheds, 2 guard and staff rooms and 12 fences that were constructed illegally and on government land.
An official said that the drive will continue till all the authorized and illegal constructions are removed and encroached land is retrieved and handed over to the GDA.
The drive was carried out in sub-zero temperatures and in snow.
It may be mentioned here that Excelsior has carried several stories over the last few years on illegal constructions in Gulmarg. The High Court took notice and a Court Commissioner was appointed who reported to the court that there were illegal and unauthorized constructions besides government land was encroached in the tourist resort of Gulmarg.
