UDHAMPUR, Mar 19: Police recovered 40 kg of poppy straw from a vehicle on way from Kashmir, here today, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Udhampur.
A Police team of Police Station Udhampur, headed by SHO Raghubir Singh intercepted the vehicle (Tata Ace) bearing registration number UP12AT-6380 during naka checking at Jakheni.

During the search, two gunny bags were found concealed inside empty vegetable crates in the rear side of the vehicle. Upon checking, a total of 40 kg of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from the bags following which Police arrested the vehicle driver, identified as Haseen, son of Nafees, of Baghra, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
In this regard, a case FIR under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a police team from Police Post Roun-Domail, while on patrolling duty in the Dhalpar and Jaganoo areas, apprehended a suspect standing near the passenger shed at Tawi Bridge, Jaganoo Morh.
Upon his frisking, a white transparent knotted polythene bag containing a heroin-like substance, weighing 3.12 grams was recovered from right pocket of his trousers.
The accused identified himself as Farooq Khan alias Puttu, son of Karan Illahi, resident of Karowa, Udhampur. He was arrested on the spot and a case was registered against him under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, at the Police Station Udhampur.
