JAMMU, May 22: Foiling separate attempts of bovine smuggling in Udhampur and Reasi districts, Police today rescued 41 animals and arrested two smugglers.
Two attempts were foiled in Kud and Chenani, where 22 bovine animals were rescued while 19 animals were rescued in Gulabgarh area in Mahore.
A specific information was received at SPP Gulabgarh that some persons along with bovine animals were on way from Dewal Dugga towards Kashmir Valley via Arital. On this, a Police team from Gulabgarh, rushed to the spot and rescued 19 bovine animals from the possession of the accused person, identified as Bashir Ahmed of Dewal Dugga Mahore.
Police arrested the accused and registered a case in this connection, under Section 188 RPC at Police Station Mahore.
Meanwhile, a Police party from Police Station Chenani laid a surprise naka near Chenani National Highway and intercepted one Tata Mahindra bearing registration number JK14B-7834, which was on its way towards Srinagar. During the thorough search, the vehicle was found loaded with nine bovine animals. Police rescued the animals and seized the vehicle while its driver, namely Kalu of Thard in Udhampur, was also arrested on the spot.
Similarly, in another incident, a Police party from Police Station Kud laid a surprise naka on the National Highway and intercepted two Tata Mobile vehicles bearing registration number JK14C-3252 and JK14B-5599. The vehicles were found loaded with 13 bovine animals, which were rescued by Police even as the drivers managed to escape.
