41 trekkers rescued

LEH, Jan 12: District administration here today rescued and evacuated a group of 41 trekkers who were proceeding on Chadar Trek.
A handout of District Magistrate/Chairperson, DDMA, Leh-Ladakh, Sachin Kumar Vaishya stated that the trekkers were trapped between Tibb and Neyraks camps due to overflow of water over the ice.
“The trekkers were rescued, evacuated and accommodated at Neraks village and all of them were safe and all necessary arrangements for their safety and evacuation have been put in place by the district administration,” the handout stated.
It also informed that the Chadar Trek was temporarily suspended for the next two days (January 13 and 14) due to inclement weather conditions and the decision for the opening of the trek shall be taken only after field assessment.
