Srinagar, June 9: Gra-ppling with the huge rush of patients everyday, the Health Department today admitted that Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu lacked key equipments and has only single MRI Machine.
In a written reply to the question of MLC Ramesh Arora in Upper House, the Minister Incharge Health and Medical Education Department Bali Bhagat admitted that Heart Lung Surgery machine and renal transplantation equipments are not available in the GMC Jammu as of now.
“The Heart Lung Surgery machine has been procured recently uner Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). It will be installed in the hospital within 15 days,” said the Minister. He added that the department will explore ways and means for the procurement of the renal transplantation machine.
With regard to MRI machine, the Minister said that the Health Department will review requirements of MRI machines and take appropriate decision accordingly, He however, said a latest endoscopic machine has been procured for an amount of Rs. 90 lakh and was installed on February 2, 2016 in the hospital.
Meanwhile, a total of 414 posts of faculty members are lying vacant in Government Medical Colleges in Srinagar and Jammu, the Health and Medical Education Department said today in Legislative Council.
In a written reply to a question of MLC Dr Shehnaz Ganai, the Health Minister Bali Bhagat said 258 posts are lying vacant in GMC Srinagar while 156 are lying vacant in GMC Jammu.
While the sanctioned strength at GMC Srinagar is of 519 posts, only 261 are in position, the figures of the Health Department revealed. Similarly in GMC Jammu, the sanctioned strength is 390 but only 234 are in position.
The Minister Incharge said that 116 entry level faculty posts of lecturers of Government Medical Colleges have been referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission for selection of suitable candidates.
“96 posts of lecturers of different disciplines are to be referred to J&K PSC for selection of suitable candidates. Meanwhile, the vacant posts of lecturers/other faculty members are being filled on academic arrangement basis under SRO-384 of 2009 read with SRO-409 of 2013 for manning of these faculty positions,” said the Minister.
