42 injured in cylinder blast

KISHTWAR, Nov 27: In a tragic incident, 42 persons mostly women and children sustained severe burn injuries after a LPG cylinder exploded during a marriage ceremony in Galigard area near Sarthal this afternoon.
According to the police, incident took place in the house of Kewal Krishan, son of Kant Ram where large number of relatives and friends were present to attend his marriage ceremony.
A Havan was being performed when gas cylinder suddenly caught fire and later exploded with big bang thereby turning the marriage ceremony into a major tragedy with 42 person sustaining burn injuries, 20 of them critically.
On getting information about the tragedy, police personnel rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. All the injured persons were rushed to District Hospital and 20 of them were later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for specialized treatment.
According to the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, Dr Ghulam Mohammad Naqeeb, 18 persons with severe burn injuries were referred to GMC Jammu by road while two critically injured persons were airlifted. He said that many injured persons reported at District Hospital Kishtwar had injuries on their face, hands and legs.

Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Baseer Ahmed Khan, who along with SP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal visited the District Hospital Kishtwar to enquire about the condition of injured, has announced final assistance of Rs 2000 each to the injured persons out of Red Cross.
