4453 killed in last 4 yrs in road accidents across J&K: Govt

JAMMU : The Jammu and Kashmir government today said that 4453 people have lost their lives in the last four years in separate road accidents across the state.
In a written reply to the question of CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, the government said, “during the last four years, 25,495 road accidents were reported in the state in which 4453 people lost their lives and 36,920 got injured.”
The government further said that out of total accidents reported in four years, 2401 took place in erstwhile Doda district in which 823 persons were killed and 3700 got injured.
Mr Tarigami in a question had sought details of road accidents during the last four years in the state, inquiries conducted, compensation paid to the victims and the present status to look into causes of frequent road accidents on Batote-Kishtwar road.
“Cases have been registered in the concerned police stations and investigations taken up,” it said.
“Regarding compensation payment to the affected families, an amount of Rs 170.60 lakh has been disbursed among the accident victims out of which Rs 64.25 was disbursed in Doda district,” added the government.
