JAMMU, Jan 1: Minister for Roads & Building, Abdul Majid Wani today said that the State Government is prioritizing construction of new roads and bridges with equal focus on upgradation of existing connectivity in the State for sustainable development.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing the Sarpanchs and Panchs convocation to get first hand appraisal of the developmental activities being carried out in their respective areas.
The Minister said that the Government is laying special emphasis on construction, upgradation and maintenance of roads in the State which play vital role in State’s economy. He said a number of motorable roads and bridges have been completed this year while as work on various vital links and bridges would be taken up under PMGSY to ensure road connectivity to left-out habitations of rural areas.
“Over 450 habitations of erstwhile Doda district would be connected by all-weather access on priority under PMGSY so that the people of these areas can have easy and faster accessibility to their counterparts living in urban areas”, he maintained.
Wani said that a proposal for construction of motorable bridges replacing old foot bridges at some places in the State is also under consideration. He said that land compensation process has also been expedited to ensure early completion of projects under PMGSY. He sought explanation from concerned AEE and JE for not starting work on inspection hut at Hanch despite completion of all codal formalities.
The Minister appealed the Sarpanchs to work hard for ensuring maintenance of communal harmony and amity in their respective areas which is pre-requisite for progress and prosperity in the area.
Highlighting development issues of their respective Panchayat halqas, the representatives demanded construction of roads and bridges, upgradation of educational institutions, establishment of Allopathic Dispensaries and veterinary centres and provision of uninterrupted power and water supply besides construction of inspection huts at their respective areas.
Among others, Chief Engineer, R&B Abdul Hamid Sheikh, Managing Director, JK PCC T R Bhagat besides Sarpanchs and Panchs of Doda District were present.
