Kathua police tightens noose on liquor mafia

KATHUA, Mar 15: In continuation to stringent actions against illicit liquor menace, Kathua police today cracked down on illicit liquor mafia, conducted series of raids in the jurisdiction of Police Station, Rajbagh and Kathua, destroyed 4500 litres of lahan and seized 90 litres of illicit liquor.
Police teams of Police Station Kathua during raid in village Ghatti destroyed 2500 litres of lahan , seized 90 liters of illicit liquor and destroyed makeshift production units used for manufacturing of illicit liquor.
In this regard three FIRs 70/2020, 71/2020 and 72/2020 under Excise Act were registered at Police Station Kathua and five persons were also booked.
Police in another action in the jurisdiction of Police Station, Rajbagh conducted series of raids in village Sunjwan, Ladwal, Banyari, Haria Chak and destroyed about 2000 liters of lahan, seized 60 liters of illicit liquor and destroyed all makeshift production units used for manufacturing the liquor.
Police registered five FIRs 47/2020, 48/2020, 49/2020, 50/2020 and 51/20 under Excise Act and booked five persons in this regard.
SSP Kathua Shalinder Mishra said that strong steps are being taken to contain drug and liquor menace in the district. He said such raids will be conducted in other identified areas where such illegal activities are going on. The SSP warned all those who are indulging in illicit liquor trade saying strict action under law will be taken against them. He also appealed people of the area to come forward and share information about any such illegal activities with Police.
