454 questions, 14 pvt member resolutions, 14 Bills taken up in LC

JAMMU, Apr 6: Before adjourning the House sine-die, the Chairman, Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra thanked all members for giving full support for smooth conduct of current budget session.
He said that every effort was made to give adequate time to every member to raise issues of public interest during Question Hour, Zero Hour, debates, discussions and other business of the House.
The Chairman thanked the Ministers, members, Chief Secretary and Council Secretariat for their cooperation and support they extended in smooth conduct of the proceedings of the House.
Giving details of the business conducted during the entire period, the Chairman said that as many as 339 starred questions were taken up against the 368 received from the members, while 115 un-stared questions were taken up out of 129 received by the Council.
Malhotra said that out of 2, one short notice question was taken up, while discussion under rule 60-A on 3 Notices was held out of five. He said 7 Notices were taken up for Half-an-Hour discussion against 11 received on this account.
Regarding Private Members Resolutions, the Chairman said that 14 were taken up out of 26 received by the Council. He said 2 notices were taken up for discussion under Rule 52 in the House. He said discussion of five Ministries were held under Rule 183-A apart from taking up of 56 Calling Attention Notices (CAN).
Regarding Government Bills, the Chairman said that 6 Money Bills were returned to Assembly apart from passing 9 Money Bills. He said out of 10 Private Members’ Bills, 8 were taken up besides introducing 1 Bill.
Minister for Planning and Development, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra while speaking on the occasion appreciated the Chairman for conducting the business of the House smoothly. He also lauded the Members for showing highest degree of discipline and patience while raising the issues of public interests in the House.
Terming the absence of major Opposition party PDP as unfortunate, the Minister said “we miss them in the House”.
Appreciating the debates held in the House on several public interest issues, Mr. Sadhotra said that Government made every effort to convince the members by providing elaborate and to-the-point replies to their questions.
Lauding the role of officials, print and electronic media, the Minister said media agencies tried to give space to all the members of the House.
Earlier, the Members included Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardhy, Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Jugal Kishore, Javed Ahmad Rana, Dr.Shehnaz Ganai, Abdul Majeed Bhat and Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri spoke on the occasion and expressed their views. They thanked the Chairman for giving them enough opportunities to take up public interest issues in the House.
