NEW DELHI: Parts of northern plains were engulfed by fog delaying rail traffic and claiming three lives in Haryana, while night temperatures in most places of Kashmir settled above freezing point, barring Ladakh and high altitude areas of the Valley.
As many as 45 north-bound trains were delayed and 24 others rescheduled due to fog.
Dense fog occurred at isolated places in West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab, while shallow to moderate fog occurred at isolated places over Bihar and east Rajasthan in the morning hours.
Three persons were killed and one was injured their car dashed into a truck which was parked on the roadside near Baas village in Hisar district of Haryana last night, police said, adding low visibility due to fog is stated to have led to the mishap.
Mainly clear skies prevailed in the national capital after foggy conditions in the morning hours.
There were some minor delays in flight operations because of the weather but there was no cancellation or diversion due to visibility, an airport official in Delhi said.
The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 8.6 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the maximum temperature settled at 23.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above season’s average.
Night temperatures in Kashmir registered a remarkable improvement to settle above freezing point but the high altitude areas, which recorded heavy snowfall last month, continue to reel under freezing temperatures, a MeT official said.
Leh town in Ladakh region registered a low of minus 11.9 degrees Celsius against 13.1 degrees Celsius of the previous night, making it the coldest recorded place in the state, the official said. (AGENCIES)
