SRINAGAR, Oct 3: The 46th session of the All India Oriental Conference (AIOC) concluded at the University of Kashmir, here today.
2572 delegates participated and 2332 scholars from various educational institutes of the country and from foreign countries presented their papers in more than 105 technical sessions which were conducted at various auditoriums and conference halls of the University during the 3-day conference.
On the concluding day of the 3-day conference, the Executive Committee for the 47th session of the AIOC was also elected which will be held at the University of Guwahati in Assam.
During a valedictory function which was held at the Convocation Complex of the University, the Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir, Prof Talat felicitated the scholars who were adjudged as the best paper presenters in various sections of the oriental studies.
In his presidential address, Prof Talat who was chief guest on the occasion said “It was a matter of great pride for the University of Kashmir to host the 46th session of the All India Oriental Conference which brought around 3000 delegates from different regions, linguistics, cultures and corners of the country together on a single platform.”
Acknowledging the support provided by various institutions for the smooth conduct of the conference Prof Talat said “Without the support of the organization and institutions like Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan it would not have been possible for us to conduct the conference successfully”.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Hari Dutt Sharma Vice President of the 46th session of the AIOC said that over the years the quality of papers presented in the various sessions of the AIOC is decreasing which needs to be looked into.
“The AIOC has travelled through a long period of 91 years working tirelessly for the promotion and propagation of oriental studies. However over a period of time it has been observed that the standard of research and the quality of papers is decreasing”, said Sharma.
In her address, Head, Department of Sanskrit, Prof S Razdan while terming the conference as a great success said the success of any intellectual deliberation depends on the number of participation and the response received from the number.
Prof S Razdan, who was also local secretary of the Conference informed that University of Kashmir was assigned the job of organizing this mega event for second time after a gap of 48 years.
Earlier, hundreds of Research papers on different oriental themes were read in various auditoriums and conference halls of University of Kashmir on the second and third day of 3- day “46th All India Oriental Conference” which was inaugurated by Governor of Assam, J B Patnaik on Monday.
