UDHAMPUR, May 25: In another success, Police today seized 47 kg of poppy straw from a truck at Jakhani naka and arrested the accused driver.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that the truck (PB13W-9131) was intercepted by a Police party, led by SHO Udhampur Vijay Singh Choudhary, under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch, Addl SP Udhampur and Dr Rohit Chadgal, DySP Hqrs Udhampur.
During checking, 47 kg of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle The accused driver namely Ashgar Ali, son of Bhopu Shah of Malerkotla, Punjab, was arrested on the spot and recovered poppy straw was also seized.
In this connection, a case FIR number 207/2020 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
Meanwhile, Police also smashed a still at Sudhmahadev and seized three liters of hooch besides arresting two bootleggers.
Based on specific information, a Police team, led by SHO Chenani Pushpinder Singh and assisted by SI Arun Slathia, IC PP Sudhmahadev, conducted a raid in the house of Om Parkash, son of Beli Ram of Bachal, Chenani and recovered three liters of hooch. Around 30 litres Lahan was also recovered and destroyed on the spot.
Accused Om Parkash and his associate Raj Kumar were arrested. In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chenani.
