5 arrested with contraband

RAMBAN, Mar 8: Jawahar Tunnel and Batote Police arrested five persons along with contraband.
As per police sources, a team from Police Post Jawahar Tunnel led by Inspector Wasim Mehraj intercepted a person, who was moving under suspicious circumstances.
During checking, police team recovered 30 grams heroin from the possession of the person and arrested him. The arrested person has been identified as Tanveer Ahmad alias Jimmy, son of Bashir Ahmad Choudhary, a resident of Banihal.
Moreover, two more persons identified as Uzar Ahmed Dar, son of Abdul Majeed Dar and Adil Ahmed Dar, son of Mohammad Sharief Dar, both residents of Darpura tehsil Banihal were also arrested on the spot.
During preliminary questioning, Taveer Ahmad alias Jimmy confessed that he was illegally selling such banned drug among the youth of JK UT.
A case under FIR Number 17/2021 under Section 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Station Batote led by SHO Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao during checking intercepted a tanker bearing registration number HR55U 3610, which was heading towards Punjab from Srinagar.
During checking, police team recovered 9 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested two persons, who were identified as Kala Singh (driver), son of Kuldeep Singh and Sadiq Mohammad (cleaner), son of Kapoor Mohammad, both residents of Punjab.
A case under FIR Number 16/2021 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Batote and investigation initiated.
