5 bovines, illicit liquor seized; 5 gambler held

KATHUA, Dec 29: The police seized a truck loaded five bovine animals near Hiranagar while illicit liquor was recovered during Excise raids in Basohli and Dayala Chak area today.
A police spokesman said that Hiranagar police party intercepted a truck No. JK-14/4636 near Jangi Chak (Plah Morh) during early hours today. The driver managed to escape from Naka while cops seized vehicle along with animals. A case was registered in this connection.
Another police party in Hiranagar arrested one Parveen Gupta of Chhan Rodian today and recovered 39 nips of J&K Excise liquor from their possession. One Bishan Dass of village Bhoond in Basohli, was also held under Excise Act and 42 nips of liquor were seized from him.
Meanwhile Basohli police arrested five persons under Gambling Act and recovered stake money worth Rs 29,050 from their possession. The locals informed SDPO Basohli, Mohd Rafiq about the matter and the police party conducted raid at Govt Middle School Surjan and nabbed the accused from the premises. Those arrested were identified as Gian Chand, Bittu, Gulzar Ahmed, Mohd Shafi and Akhtar Hussain of the same area. A case was registered against them.
