5 Corona casualties in J&K, 531 test +ve; 53 new cases in Ladakh

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Dec 6: Five Coronavirus casualties were reported from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today while 531 persons tested positive for the virus including 308 in Jammu region and 366 others recovered from the virus.
HoD Medicines Department in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu Dr Anil Sharma today tested positive for the virus. A Pathologist in the District Hospital Kishtwar and a former Drug Controller along with his wife have also tested positive today.
As Jammu region recorded 20 Corona fatalities in last three days and positive cases almost touching 300 daily, the GMC Jammu administration ramped up bed strength for COVID patients.
Seventy five beds were today added for the COVID patients including 13 with Intensive Care Unit and 62 with other facilities including Oxygen in Ward No. 7, GMC Principal Dr Shashi S Sudan told the Excelsior.
She said 186 more beds are being added shortly for COVID patients in Ward Nos. 2, 11 and 15 of the GMC Jammu while 18 ICU beds will be added to Mother & Child Care Hospital Gandhi Nagar.
Meanwhile, a 58-year-old man from Gujjar Nagar in Jammu district, who was suffering from multiple ailments and COVID-19, died in the GMC Jammu, Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said.
A 64-year-old from village Padder in Kishtwar district died of pathogen in the GMC Jammu.

Two senior citizens from Muthi and RS Pura also succumbed to the virus today.
In Kashmir, a 70-year-old man from Batamaloo area of Srinagar died in the Chest Diseases Hospital Srinagar taking Corona toll in the Valley to 1126.
Among 308 COVID positive cases in Jammu region, 132 were reported from Jammu district, 35 Kathua, 28 each Udhampur and Kishtwar, 25 Doda, 23 Rajouri, 15 Samba, 12 Reasi, six Poonch and four in Ramban district.
As many as 194 persons recovered from the virus today, 125 of them in Jammu district, 24 Udhampur and 20 in Kishtwar.
Jammu region now has 46037 Corona positive cases. Of them, 2494 are active positives while 42923 have recovered from the virus and there have been 620 casualties.
The casualties include 316 in Jammu district, 57 Doda, 51 Udhampur, 50 Rajouri, 42 Kathua, 33 Samba, 22 Poonch, 20 each Kishtwar and Ramban and nine in Reasi district.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 53 new Corona cases—49 in Leh and four in Kargil district tasking total count to 8893. Among them, 858 are active positives and 7915 others have recovered from the virus.
There have been 120 casualties in Ladakh—78 in Leh and 42 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Srinagar district with 427 deaths topped the Corona fatality list in Kashmir followed by Baramulla 163, Budgam 103, Pulwama 86, Kupwara 85, Anantnag 80, Bandipora 55, Kulgam 51, Ganderbal 39 and Shopian 37.
In Kashmir valley, 223 people tested positive for Coronavirus.
Giving district wise details, sources said, Srinagar reported 97, Baramulla 36,Budgam 29, Pulwama 10, Kupwara 7, Anantnag 14, Bandipora 11, Ganderbal 9, and Shopian 10.
With the fresh cases, Srinagar has now 23688 positive cases with 1191 active, 22070 recovered, 427 deaths; Baramulla has 7599 positive cases with 211 active, 7225 recovered, 163 deaths; Pulwama reported 5191 positive cases with 168 active cases, 4937 recovered, 86 deaths; Kulgam has 2612 positive cases with 63 active, 2498 recoveries , 51 deaths; Shopian has 2388 positive cases with 84 active, 2267 recovered and 37 deaths; Anantnag district has 4617positive cases with 136 active, 4401 recovered, 80 deaths; Budgam has 7114 positive cases with 291 active and 6720 recovered, 103 deaths; Kupwara has 5269 positive cases with 217 active, 4967 recovered, 85 deaths; Bandipora has 4492 positive cases with 135 active, 4302 recovered, 55 deaths and Ganderbal has 4281 positive cases with 180 active cases, 4062 recoveries and 39 deaths.
Out of 113288 positive cases, 5170 are active Positive, 106372 have recovered and 1746 have died including 1126 in Kashmir division.
