5-day Mime Festival concludes

JAMMU, Aug 31: The first ever five-day Mime Festival and Workshop organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Union Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, concluded here today at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium.
Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, JU, who was the chief guest on the occasion, was overwhelmed by the outcome of this unique event, which he termed as historic and highly meaningful for the University students.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sharma expressed his happiness over the organization of such workshops under the guidance of world renowned Mime Artist Padamshree Niranjan Goswami. He said that such types of workshops not only chisel the talent of students but also help in channelizing their energy towards positive direction along with their routine studies.
Earlier Regional Director of ICCR, J&K, Balwant Thakur dwelt in details about the ICCR initiatives aimed at engaging the young talent of the State in achieving proficiency in arts and performing arts. He further said that there is no dearth of talent in Jammu.
“Particularly the young talent has the capacity and capability to match International standards but they require the right kind of platform, exposure and encouragement. For this ICCR will make all out efforts to nourish and support the local talent”, he added.
This followed a festival of the performances by the participants which included solo acts and few theme based group mime acts entitled ‘Mobile Menace’ ‘Specially abled’, ‘Catching the Butterfly’, ‘Parents and the Children’, ‘Towards Healthy life-style’, ‘Langer Main Dangal’ and ‘The Thief’.
The programme culminated with the master performances-cum-demonstration by Padamshree Niranjan Goswami of Indian Mime Theatre Kolkatta.
The programme was conducted by Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor who also efficiently coordinated this magnificent event while the vote of thanks was presented by Prof SK Pandita, convener, Campus Cultural Committee.
