Woman dies of Corona, J&K toll 36

SRINAGAR, June 5: Five doctors and seven pregnant women were among 108 cases of COVID-19 reported in Kashmir today, taking positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 3324 and a women who died at SMHS hospital Srinagar has tested positive.
A day after a 65-year-old woman from Srinagar died at SMHS hospital here, she tested positive for the Coronavirus today.
A resident of Batamaloo, she became the ninth Srinagar resident and 36th in the J&K to succumb to the virus. She was brought to the hospital on Thursday morning. She had many underlying ailments including pneumonia and died later. Her sample tested positive for COVID-19 last night.
With the latest fatality, the death toll due to the virus in J&K has gone up to 36. So far Srinagar district with nine deaths due to the virus has the highest fatalities, followed by Baramulla seven, Anantnag five, Kulgam four, two each from Shopian and Budgam and one death each from Bandipora and Kupwara districts.
The today’s positive cases include 6 from Anantnag, 22 from Srinagar, two from Kulgam, 13 from Kupwara, seven from Baramulla, 42 from Shopian, four from Bandipora, nine from Budgam, two from Pulwama and one from Ganderbal.
Sources said that 2469 samples were processed at CD hospital laboratory Srinagar and 64 tested positive including five doctors and seven pregnant woman.
There are 27 COVID-19 positive cases from Shopian district of South Kashmir including 13 positives from a Baginder village of Shopian.
They include eight men aged 32, 15, 65, 40, 23, 27, 30 and 35 years and five women aged 70, 18, 20, 22 and 48 years.
There are 14 positives from Srinagar including men aged 50, 24, 59, 37, 28 and 55 years and women aged 60, 26, 55, 28, 1‘8, 35, 37 and 58 years.
Five positives are from Baramulla and include men aged 44 and 21 years and women aged 25, 34 and 37 years.
There are two women aged 24 and 62 from Kulgam who tested positives with one of them pregnant and five are from Anantnag including two men aged 35 and 32 years and three women aged 68, 34 and 20 years.
A 59 year old man from Kupwara besides three men aged 94, 65 and 61 years and one woman aged 30 years from Budgam tested positive.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan, told Excelsior that out of the 2315 samples processed at the viral diagnostic lab today, 34 tested positive for the virus. Among them 12 are from Kupwara, eight from Srinagar, four from Bandipora, two each from Shopian, Baramulla and Budgam besides one each from Anantnag, Shopian and Rajouri districts.
On Kupwara cases, he said, the samples were received from CHC Kupwara and include 30-year-old man from Tekipora, 69-year-old man from DPL Kupwara, 23-year-old woman from Sultanpora, a girl and four women aged 13, 18, 21, 26 and 42 years besides four men aged 26, 28, 32 and 38 years old from Warnow.
He said out of the samples which tested positive are seven received from CMO Srinagar and they are all men—34-year-old from Beerwa Budgam, 65-year-old from Lal Bazar Srinagar, 27-year-old from Pandan Nowhatta, 43-year-old from Bemina Srinagar, 29-year-old from Shopian, Kulam Srinagar and Pantha Chowk Srinagar.
Samples which were taken at SKIMS and tested positive include that of 65-year-old man from Nowpora Shopian, 4-year-old from Ashmuqam Anantnag and 31-year-old from DH Pora Kulgam.
The others include 60-year-old man from Nagipora Bandipora, one man and two women —30-year-old and 75-year-old from Bonakoot Bandipora besides 30-year-old man from Khanpora Baramulla and 33-year-old woman from Jara Boniyar in Uri as well as three cases from Nowgam Srinagar—2 men, aged 34 and 75 and 30-year-old woman—and 2-year-old girl from Kaitch Budgam, 38-year-old man from Bandikatore Rajouri and 62-year-old woman from Heerpora Batgund Shopian.
Principal SKIMS Bemina, Dr Riyaz Untoo, told Excelsior that out of the 300 samples processed at the hospital’s diagnostic laboratory 13 tested positive. He said that all of them are from Shopian district of South Kashmir. They include five women aged 38, 25, 36, 36 and 40 years from Saidpora, Ayend, Kapran, Karipora and Vehil and eight men aged 21, 31, 40, 40, 55 and 42 from Chowdrigund, Vehil, Gadapora, Poshhama, Chatwatan and Rai Kapran respectively.
And as per officials, out of 3142 positive cases, 2059 are active, 1048 have recovered and 36 have died including four in Jammu and 32 in Kashmir.
Till date 197350 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 42195 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by Government, 38 in Hospital Quarantine, 2059 in hospital isolation and 53745 under home surveillance. Besides, 99278 persons have completed their surveillance period.
