REASI, Apr 2: Continuing the drive against drug abuse, Police arrested five drug peddlers and seized heroin like substance from their possession.
Three drug peddlers were apprehended during routine vehicle checking at Kakryal, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Katra while two more were caught by Police Post Talwara in Reasi.
An auto-rickshaw was intercepted at Kakryal and 6.3 grams of heroin-like substance long with an unauthorized weapon were recovered. The contraband was recovered from the driver namely Ajay Singh alias Ajju, son of Rattan Singh, resident of Village Panthal, Katra, Reasi. Two other individuals, Mulkh Raj, son of Darshan Kumar and Bhushan Kumar, son of Bikru Ram, both resident of Mani, Ramnagar, were accompanying the driver and were also taken into custody.
In addition to the drug seizure, the police team also recovered a toka (a sharp edged weapon) from the vehicle, further escalating the seriousness of the offense.
In this regard, a case FIR, under section 8/21/22/25/29 NDPS Act, 4/25 Arms Act has been registered at P/S Katra and an investigation has been initiated to uncover both forward and backward linkages of the narcotics supply chain. This successful operation was carried out under the leadership of SHO Katra, Khyatimaan Khajuria, and supervision of SDPO Katra, Dr Bhishm Dubey.
In another success, patrolling party of Police Post Talwara arrested two more drug peddlers and recovered 01.30 grams of heroin like substance from their possession. The accused, identified as Rakesh Singh, son of Harnam Singh of Gabbar, Thakrakote, was driving a vehicle (JK20B-9054) while the other accused, namely Ranju Thakur , son of Kali Dass, resident of Village- Gabbar, was accompanying him.
In this regard, a case FIR under NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Reasi.
