Srinagar, Jan 13: Police today arrested five drug peddlers from Srinagar, Awantipora, and Sopore, recovering contraband substances from their possession.
As per authorities, a police team from police station Chanapora, at a checkpoint established at Chanapora, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK02AF-1776, with two persons on board.
They have been identified as Umer Manzoor Rather, resident of Natipora alias Manadev, and Yawer Ahmad Bhat, resident of Baghat Kanipora, police said.
“During the search, a substantial quantity of contraband substance was recovered from their possession.”
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 03/2025 under the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Chanapora, and an investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, police in Awantipora and Sopore arrested two peddlers.
As per authorities, a police team at a checkpoint established at Datapora Dogripora arrested two drug peddlers.
Those arrested have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Lohrihanji, son of Ali Mohd Lohrihanji, resident of Gund Prang Hajin Bandipora, and Reyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Gani Mir, resident of Datapora Dogripora.
“During the search, 1.460 Kgs of grinded cannabis powder was recovered from their possession,” police said.
In Sopore, during patrolling at Harwan Sopore, a police team led by SHO PS Bomai, under the supervision of SDPO Sopore, intercepted a drug peddler identified as Manzoor Ahmad Mochi, son of Mohammad Shaban Mochi, resident of Harwan Sopore.
“During the search, 137 grams of charas was recovered from his possession,” police said.
All the accused have been arrested, and cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at respective police stations. Investigations have been initiated, police said.
