JAMMU, Mar 18: Banihal, Jawahar Tunnel and Kishtwar police arrested five drug peddlers along with 345 kilograms of poppy straw and 249 intoxicant tablets.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka at T Chowk and intercepted two Punjab bound trucks bearing registration numbers PB13AL-6792 and PB11AY-9368.
During checking, police team recovered 320 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicles and arrested two persons, who were identified as Baljinder Singh, son of Sakinder Singh, a resident of District Ludhiana and Mandeep Singh, son of Paramjeet Singh of Tehsil Hoshiarpur Punjab.
However, a team from Jawahar Tunnel Police Post during checking at Chakori Nallah intercepted a Tata Mobile bearing registration number PB29N-9621.
During frisking, police team recovered 25 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested one person, who was identified as Satpal Singh, son of Balkar Singh of Butan Tehsil Dilma Kapoorthala Punjab.
Three cases under relevant sections have been registered at Banihal Police Station and investigation started.
The arrest and recoveries have been made by SHO Banihal Inspector Abid Hussain Bukhari and Incharge Police Post Jawahar Tunnel SI Waseem Mehraj under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Ashish Gupta, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Haseeb-ur-Rehman.
Meanwhile, a team from Kishtwar Police Station during checking at Malipath intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK02AB-1785.
During checking, police team recovered 249 intoxicant tablets from the possession of the rider and pillion rider and arrested them.
The arrested persons were identified as Sadam Hussain, son of Mohammad Ramzan of Dongdoru Dachhan District Kishtwar and Tousif Qayoom, son of Abdul Qayoom of Sarkoot District Kishtwar.
A case under FIR Number 46/2020 under section 8/20/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Kishtwar Police Station against the arrested persons and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Kishtwar Inspector Aejaz Ahmed Wani made the arrest under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kishtwar Sunny Gupta.
