Srinagar, Dec 13: At least five protesters were injured after clashes broke out during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Rohmoo area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir this afternoon.
Sources said that after receiving an input about the presence of some militants, police’s Special Operation Group (SOG), 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of Army, and 182,183 Battalions of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off New Colony locality of Rohmoo area and launched searches at around 1.30 pm today. As the searches were started, the locals came out of their houses and pelted stones on security forces.
The local residents resorted to heavy stone-pelting on security forces in a bid to disrupt the operation against the militants. The security personnel retaliated by firing dozens of teargas shells and pellets at the protesters. Five protesters were injured after they were hit by pellets but their condition is stated to be out of danger.  The clashes in the area intensified after people from adjoining villages also took part in the stone-pelting on security forces.
Security forces late in the afternoon called off the search operation but again arrived in the New Colony locality at around 6.15 pm to conduct searches as they suspected presence of militants. However, no militant was found in the area when reports last came in.
