5 more BRO bridges completed in Kathua: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Sept 19: Five more new bridges constructed by Border Road Organization (BRO) have been completed or at nearly completion in and around Kathua, at present. These are among over 20 new bridges for which the construction has been undertaken by the BRO in recent times and while some of these are already completed, others are at different stages of construction.
This was disclosed here today by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh after a review of BRO projects in Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha constituency. Director General BRO Lt Gen Harpal Singh made a brief presentation regarding the various ongoing road and bridge projects in the region.
DG BRO informed the Minister that on the Chann-Khatriyan-Kattal-Gujran-Londi-Bobya road, construction of a bridge of 300 metres span on Tarnah-II at Kilometer 10.200 is almost complete and will become functional by next month.
Similarly, on Dogra Mandir-Parole-Bamiyal road, construction of two bridges of span 21.48 meter at Kilometer 1.610 and Kilometer 7.155 respectively, have been completed. Construction of the fourth bridge of span 42.96 meter at Kilometer 13.598, on the same road, would have been completed by now, but has suffered a slight delay, as a result of which, it will become functional in three to four weeks. The fifth bridge of span 1.20 meters of Tarna-I at Kilometer 25.590 is also almost complete, to be functional within a month.
The Minister was also briefed about the 90.60 meter span bridge on Baniyari Nullah, the construction of which is under process and likely to be completed by the middle of the next year. Another bridge of 120.80 meter span on Saniyal Nullah at Kilometer 24.70 of Parole-Korepannu-Rajpura road is likely to be completed by the middle of the next year.
The BRO team, in its presentation, also provided the status of strengthening work of Dhar-Udhampur road, which has been completed upto Kilometers 88.00 and the balance work kept for next financial year; the Bani-Bhaderwah road where the upgradation from single lane to double land is in progress and Galhar-Gulabgarh-Sansari road, which is also undergoing upgradation from single lane to double lane.
For the landmark Chattergala Tunnel, BEACONS provided the consultancy services for DPR. There are certain issues related to budget for which Dr Jitendra Singh has written to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the National Highways Authority of India(NHAI) to contribute their resources.
The upgradation of the category of the Bhagwa-Lal Daraman Defence Road also came up for discussion, for which also Dr Jitendra Singh had made a written request to the Defence Minister.
