RAJOURI, July 21: Township of Rajouri is facing acute power crisis as it continued to get power through only 5 MVA electric transformer installed for the last nearly 30 years.
State vice president of BJP, Vivod Gupta (advocate) has alleged that the 5 MVA transformer installed in the town for the population of over 60,000 souls, went out of order on Saturday. The PDD authorities tried to install 3.5 MVA transformer instead of 5 MVA. It is strong demand of the people of the area to install 10 MVA transformer in the town which has increased manifold. He said about 30 years back, Rajouri had a population of just 10,000 and now it has crossed even 60,000. There were only 10 small wards at that time and now the number has reached up to 17 in the town.
The PDD authorities have failed to upgrade its infrastructure in last three decades. Even the local MLA was holding the charge of PDD for nearly three years but he too, did not bother to provide some relief to the people of Rajouri. Unfortunately, the small towns like Manjakote and Gambir have been provided 10 MVA transformers but demand of Rajouri people has been ignored. The town is experiencing 10-12 hour power curtailment and the people have been badly affected, Mr Gupta added.
He claimed that PDD authorities will not be allowed to install just 3.5 MVA transformer in the town. He sought the intervention of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and demanded that this demand of the people of Rajouri should be addressed without any delay otherwise, people of the area, irrespective of their political affiliations will be forced to launch united agitation over the common issue of electricity. There was strong resentment among the people against the local legislator and the PDD authorities. He said not only students, businessmen or bankers, but people from every sector have been hit with the power crisis.
