5 of family among 10 die in accidents

JAMMU, Aug 16:  Ten persons including five members of a family were killed in three separate road accidents in Rajouri, Kathua and Ramban districts since yesterday.
Five members of a family including two minors were killed in a car accident in Rajouri,  three persons including the patient and doctor were killed when a fast driven uncontrolled ambulance was hit against a Pulli  near Chadwal on Jammu-Pathankote highway this afternoon while two Army jawans were killed in another road accident in Ramban area on Monday.
Reports from Rajouri said that car accident took place when Master (Retd) Mohd Bashir (65), resident of Ari in Mendhar  along with his two sons and two grand-children had gone to Lam village in Nowshera to meet a local ‘Hakeem’  for the treatment of younger son Arshed Ahmed (26). They started from their home in their white Alto car  No. JK-12/ 7280 early in the morning. Two children of elder Son Sajjad Ahmed Khan (Lecturer)- Mujahid Khan (10) and Sanam Anjum (13), insisted to accompany them. They all five left for Lam and reached there  at around 11 AM.  After taking medicines etc they were free within 20-25 minutes.
From Lam, they started around 11.25 am for their return journey to Ari. When they reached near Dalogra, about 16 kms short of Rajouri   at round 12.35 pm , the vehicle being driven by Lecturer -Sajjad  went out of control and rolled down into 300 feet deep gorge.  While four persons were killed on the spot, Sajjad was dragged out from the wreckage of the vehicle by the locals in critical condition  and was rushed to District hospital Rajouri but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
All the dead bodies were also removed to Rajouri hospital by police and after conducting postmortem, were handed over to the family. Sajjad was posted as lecturer in Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Mendhar.
Another tragic accident took place at Seinswan near Chadwal, on National Highway in district Kathua at around 3 pm today when an Ambulance was shifting a serious patient to DMC  Ludhiana from  a Katra hospital. The ambulance No. JK02BB/ 9829 being driven by Pawan Choudhary of  Maralian ( Miran Sahib) went out of control and  rammed into a Pulli with great force and was thrown away in the small nallah.
While the patient, driver and a doctor  were killed on the spot, four  others were seriously injured in the mishap. The deceased were identified as   patient Vishal (36), son of Satish Kumar, resident of Reasi;  Dr Manav Gupta, son of Madan  Lal Gupta, resident of  Mohalla Ustad, Jammu and ambulance driver, Pawan Choudhary, son of Swarn Singh, resident of  Maralian near Miran Sahib, Jammu.
The police rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and they removed the injured to District Hospital,  Kathua. The injured were identified as Rahul, son of  Vir Singh  from Reasi; Ashraf  Shah, son of Ghulam Shah from Doda; Sanjeev Kumar, son of Lal Chand from Udhampur and Deepak Sharma, son of Dev Raj, resident of Udhampur.  Three patients excluding Sanjeev were later referred to GMC Hospital, Jammu. The dead bodies have been kept in the mortuary of Kathua hospital and the postmortem will be performed tomorrow.
A report from Ramban said that two Army jawans were killed when their vehicle rolled down into 600 feet deep gorge near Khooni Nallah in Banihal area on Monday. The vehicle of 1153 ASC Battalion was returning from Srinagar to Udhampur. At Khooni Nallah, driver lost control  and it fell down into a gorge. It took about seven hours to the Army troops to evacuate bodies to the road from deep nallah with the help of ropes  and crane.  Their bodies were shifted to Ramban hospital. The   deceased were identified as  driver Vivesh Kumar Vimal  and Sanjay Slaria, both from 1153 ASC battalion.
