RAJOURI, May 18: Police foiled multiple- bovine smuggling bids to Kashmir via Mughal Road and rescued 22 bovine animals from the clutches of smugglers near Thannamandi in Rajouri district last night.
Official sources said that teams of police headed by SHO Thannamandi, Javed Malik under the supervision of SDPO, Thanamandi, Mohammad Siddique laid surprise vehicle checking naka on Thannamandi – Bafliaz-Mughla Road during the night hours and intercepted five vehicles loaded with twenty two (22) animals in a cruel manner.
During naka checking, the vehicles which were intercepted included, JK-11C/ 6432 driven by Mehtab Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mohammad from Sagote in Rajouri loaded with five animals, vehicle No. JK11B/ 2488 driven by Mohammad Irfan, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Aiti Rajouri, loaded with 3 animals, vehicle No. JK11/ 4398 driven by Mohammad Razaq, son of Abdul Hamid, resident of Aiti Rajouri loaded with 04 animals, vehicle JK11B-4395 driven by Waseem Akram, son of Mohammad Akram, resident of Plangarh loaded with 04 animals and vehicle JK11-9651 driven by Ghulam Mustafa, son of Abdul Rehman, resident of Plangarh Thannamandi loaded with 05 animals.
All the drivers have been arrested and bovine animals rescued while vehicles have been seized at Police Station, Thannamandi.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in Thannamandi Police Station against them.
