UDHAMPUR, Dec 8: Police foiled two attempts of bovine smuggling and rescued 46 animals in Chenani, here today. Police also arrested three smugglers and seized two trucks, in which the bovines were being smuggled to Kashmir.
Acting on specific information, Chenani police laid a naka and intercepted two trucks Sensing trouble, driver of truck number JK14B-6555 fled leaving behind the vehicle in which 22 animals were found packed. In the second truck, JK02AT- 8215, 24 animals were loaded. Police rescued all the animals and arrested 3 persons from the second truck. The accused were identified as driver Abdul Rehman of Roun Domail, Riaz Ahmad of Kheri and Liaqat Ali of Kheri.
Police also seized both the trucks and registered a case in this connection at Chenani Police Station.
Meanwhile, reports from Reasi said that four bovine animals were rescued from Kansi Patta area when these were being smuggled to Kashmir.
Acting on specific information that some persons were shifting bovine animals from one vehicle to another without any legal permission at Kansi Patta, a Police team headed by Dy SP Hqr Reasi Mohan Lal, reached the spot and rescued four animals from the possession of accused persons namely Shams Din of Bathoie (Driver), Sat Paul of Akhnoor (Driver) and Mohd Gafoor of Kheral Reasi.
The accused persons have been arrested while the vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK20-2114 (Tata Mobile) and JK02BE-9715 (Tata Magic) were seized.
