RAJOURI, May 2: The Forest team assisted by Revenue officials and Police in major operation at Thandapani in Sunderbani area retrieved nearly 50 kanals of forest land situated along Jammu-Poonch highway this afternoon.
There was strong retaliation from the members of atleast six families and their supporters who had grabbed this forest land on the highway. SHO Sunderbani and SHO Dharamsal and ASP Nowshera Atul Sharma besides Tehsildar Sunderbani and DFO Nowshera and Range Officer closely monitored the operation which commenced at around 3 pm. Some structures were also dismantled during the operation.
Official sources said that this forest land was in the illegal occupation of about six families since 1994. On the directions of the Forest Minister and the supervision of District Administration this area was cleared today. Though members of these families resorted to stoning but no one was hurt in the attack.
