ICJ holding hearing of Jadhav case today

NEW DELHI:  The International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague will today hold hearing on India’s plea against death sentence to its national Kulbhushan Jadhav by a military court of Pakistan.

On April 9, the ICJ had stayed the execution of the retired Indian naval officer whom Pakistani agencies had arrested from Balochistan.

The ICJ had communicated to the Pakistan Government that the military court’s order would not be implemented until a final decision on an application filed by India was taken.

Jadhav had been arrested by Pakistani agencies last year and  awarded death sentence on charges of espionage and subversion.

India has denied all these charges and told ICJ that the military court’s action against Jadhav was violative of the Vienna Convention and Human Rights.

India says Jadhav was picked from Iran where he was doing business. (AGENCIES)
