Countdown to World Cup under-17 in India begins -100 days to go

 

KOLKATA:  The countdown to biggest ever football event – World Cup under 17 – to be hosted by India began today with exactly 100 days to go for the extra-ordinary championship  scheduled to begin on October 6, 2017.

     Tournament Director for the Local Organising Committee of FIFA U-17 World Cup, Javier Ceppi  said, “It is a matter of pride for India to host its first World Cup and now, the countdown is about to  hit double digits. We are sure that all the football fans in the country will be counting the days until  the start of the tournament and they will come out and show their support”.

  The 24 teams that have qualified for the highly anticipated event include India (Host), Iran, Iraq,  Japan, Korea DPR (AFC), New Caledonia, New Zealand (OFC), Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay (CONMEBOL), Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, USA (CONCACAF), England, France, Germany,  Spain, Turkey (UEFA), Mali, Niger, Ghana and Guinea (CAF).

   The fate of the teams will be decided on July 7 in Mumbai, when the Official Draw takes place,  the All India Football Federation today said.    India is now just 100 days away from hosting the next generation of international football stars.  In different editions of the tournament, the likes of Ronaldinho, Andres Iniesta, Gianluigi Buffon, Francesco Totti and Neymar first dazzled on the international stage. Indians now have the  opportunity to see the Neymars and Tottis of the future in their very own country.

    The wait is nearly over for fans to come and witness the first FIFA tournament in the country, with FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 just around the corner. Tickets are available online.  (AGENCIES)
