Srinagar, Mar 16: As the Baramulla Civil Society had expressed apprehensions that the sub-standard rice stored at Food Corporation of India’s (FCI) Go-Down in Chedar Sangrama might be distributed in public, around 6 more trucks carrying 540 quintals of rice today reached FCI’s Kralhal go-down.
It is from the FCI’s Kralhal Go-Down that the grains are further sent for distribution among the public. As per sources, around 8500 quintals of rice has already been shifted to FCI’s Kralhal Kanispora Go-Down.
The trucks in which the 540 quintals of rice was carried today are JK05H4331, JK05H6173, JK0G5644 and JK054656.
As per sources, the officials carried a check of the grains that are stored at FCI’s Chedar Sangrama Go-Down, during which around 900 bags of rice were checked, out of which only 156 bags of rice were up to the quality standards, indicating that a large quantity of rice is not up to the mark.
Notably, due to quality issues, the FCSCA department has not so far accepted the supply for March due to which a shortage of grains is felt among the masses. Also, the rice supplied to the people is being given back to the FCSCA due to quality issues.
However, the FCI has been maintaining that the rice in-store at all their Go-Downs is up to the mark and a proper procedure is followed in making sure that the supply is up to the standards.
Earlier, the Civil Society Members in Baramulla had also expressed their anguish over the supply of sub-standard rice to the population in north Kashmir and had demanded that the sub-standard rice lying at the FCI’s FCI’s Chedar Sangrama Go-Down be destroyed in full public view.
