55 booths normal in hypersensitive seat

Srinagar, Apr 2: Over 1000 polling stations have been found hypersensitive in Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary constituency, the notification for filing nomination papers of which was issued today.
Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, who is also Returning Officer for Srinagar-Budgam constituency today said that the security agencies have found 1,021 polling stations hypersensitive out of the total 1546 across the three districts, Budgam , Srinagar and Ganderbal.
“Only 55 booths are normal, and 420 stations are sensitive,” Shah told reporters here, while issuing notification for filing nomination papers by the candidates who are contesting the elections. Comprising 11, 71772 voters, the elections are slated for April 30 from 7 am to 6 pm.
“The nomination papers are to be submitted by the candidates to the Returning Officer or Assistant Returning Officer, Dr. Shameem Ahmad Wani, at Deputy Commissioner’s Office between 11 am to 3 pm till April 9. The forms will be taken up for security on April 10”, said the RO.
Shah said that adequate arrangements have been made for holding the elections.
“256 service voters will cast their votes through postal ballot for which arrangements have been made by the office,” he said, adding that15 video surveillance teams and three flying squads for each Assembly segment have been appointed to keep close eye on voting during polling.
Shah said that 91 percent election cards have been distributed among the voters of all the three districts, while as the rest are being updated and will be completed 10 days ahead of the polling. “The process of distribution of election cards among the voters is near to the completion. We have a demand for new cards and all the pending will be cleared before the date of election,” he said.
Shah said that three polling booths have been established for migrant voters; 13 in Jammu, 4 in Delhi and 1 in Udhampur.
The RO said that they have received four complaints of violation of Model Code of Conduct. “Three complaints about transfers and one against a political party were received. And these complaints have been disposed of”, he added.
