59 bovine animals rescued, 6 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Apr 14: Udhampur Police foiled attempts of bovine smuggling and rescued 59 animals, which were being transported to Kashmir valley in five different vehicles.
The major attempt was foiled at Jakhani naka point, under the jurisdiction of Udhampur Police Station where 53 bovine animals were recovered from three trucks.
In these trucks, bovine animals were packed in a very cruel manner. The police team immediately arrested drivers of these trucks, who were identified as Mohd Mirza, son of Mohd Sharif of Sajalta, Udhampur, Umar Ahmed son of Mohd Amin of Verinag and Ishtiaq Ahmed son of Abdul Aziz of Anantnag.
Besides registering three FIRs in this connection under relevant sections of law, Police also seized all the three trucks. The bovine smuggling bid was foiled by Police team, led by SHO Udhampur, Insp Chaman Gorkha under the supervision of Addl SP Udhampur Anwaar Ul Haq and DySP Hqrs Sahil Mahajan.
Similarly, during two more nakas by Police Station Chenani, led by SHO Charanjeet Singh under the supervision of SDPO Chenani Ahmed Shaafi, six bovine animals were rescued, three each at Motorshed naka point and Chowka Nala,Chenani.
In this connection, two FIRs were registered under the prevention of cruelty to Animals Act at PS Chenani. Three accused persons were also arrested in these two cases.
