Ceasefire violations rise along LoC: Govt

NEW DELHI: Nearly three-fold jump has been witnessed in the average number of ceasefire violations per day along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

In written reply to a question, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said that in 2017, 860 cases of ceasefire violations were reported along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

This year the figure stands at 209 till January 31, the Minister said.

According to the statistics made available in the Rajya Sabha, in 2017, an average violation along the LoC was 2.3 per day whereas the figure stood at 6.7 in 2018 till January 31. (AGENCIES)
