JAMMU, June 21: Several activities were organized today in various parts of the State to mark 5th International Yoga Day. A large number of people participated in these activities with great enthusiasm and performed various Yog Asanas.

A Yoga Day event was organized at Raj Bhavan, where Yoga experts from ‘Yoga Society of Kashmir’ conducted an hour-long session of Yoga exercises. Governor Satya Pal Malik, Umang Narula, Financial Commissioner to Governor, officers, security personnel, household and secretariat staff of the Raj Bhavan participated in the Yoga session.
The biggest function in Jammu saw hundreds of people turning up at Hakku Hockey Stadium near Jammu University to take part in the programme organized by various organizations. Divisional Commissioner Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. State BJP president Ravinder Raina and other senior party leaders also joined the participants, highlighting the importance of various Yog Asanas and urging people to adopt these in their daily life for good health.
Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine & Homeopathy Ayush, J&K celebrated the occasion at all district headquarters of the State. The main function was held at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Stadium Complex, Srinagar. Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion. Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Javaid Naseem Choudhary, DDC Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Director ISM&H, Phuntsong Angchuk, Additional Secretary Health and SSP Srinagar were also present on the occasion.

International Yoga Day was celebrated in Udhampur district with great enthusiasm. Yoga Shivirs were organized in various panchayats as well as Udhampur town. The main program was organized at Subash Sports Stadium Udhampur in which Additional Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar was present as chief guest. A large number of youth and Government officers of various departments were also present.
The 5th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at various places in Reasi district. On the occasion, a yoga camp was organised at Zorawar Singh Sports Stadium Reasi in which Deputy Commissioner, Indu Kanwal Chib and various other district officers participated. The gathering also included a large number of locals which performed yoga under the guidance of Dr Sonal Bhola, Nikhil Sharma and Rajesh Sharma.
A variety of activities were organized today across district Ramban to mark International Yoga Day. The programmes was organised by the Department of AYUSH in collaboration with the departments of School Education and Youth Services and Sports. The main programme was held in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Ramban where besides hundreds of students, several district officers participated and performed Yoga Asanas.
District Administration Kathua in collaboration with Department of Ayush Kathua celebrated the Day at Sports Stadium, Kathua. District Commissioner Vikas Kundal graced the occasion as chief guest. Yoga and Ayurveda experts from Ayush demonstrated various Yogasanas to the participants. Yoga session concluded with the Shaanti Mantra.
In Rajouri district too, a range of activities were organized to mark the International Yoga Day. The main programme was organized at Dak Bungalow, Rajouri in the morning hours where senior district officers, members from civil society and press club, locals and others participated and performed yoga. DC Rajouri, Mohammad Aijaz Asad was the chief guest on the occasion.
At Poonch, the event was organized by the Department of AYUSH, in coordination with department of District Youth Services and Sports, Education and Food Supply Department at Boys HSS Poonch. District Development Commissioner, Rahul Yadav was the chief guest on the occasion.
In Kishtwar, the programme was organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports Kishtwar in collaboration with Department of Indian System of Medicines at Chowgan Ground. DC Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana, SSP Shakti Kumar Pathak, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pawan Parihar, ACD Anil Kumar Chandail, many other officers, besides scores of people were present on the occasion.
International Yoga Day was also observed at Rajpura, Bari Brahmna and Ghagwal blocks of District Samba, in which senior officers of district administration were present on the occasion.
Yoga Day was also celebrated at Doda and Bhaderwah under the theme “Yoga for Heart” in which DDC Doda Dr Sagar D Doifode, besides sub-district/sectoral officers, officials of police department, students and people from different sections of society participated.
Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, J&K, observed the Day at Central University Campus, Sunny Resorts, Sainik Colony in collaboration with Central University, Jammu. Vice Chancellor, Central University Jammu Ashok Aima was the chief guest on the occasion while State Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Bikram Singh Gill presided over the function.
BJP Kashmir unit organized a programme on International Yoga Day at Gindan Park Rajbgh where the chief guest was BJP State General Secretary (Org) Ashok Koul and the guest of honour was JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta. Speaking on the occasion Koul said that Yoga is not only an exercise but it also discovers the sense of oneness within us, the world and the nature.
BJP Kashmir Displaced District organised Yoga camps at different places in Kashmiri migrant areas in Jammu on International Yoga Day.
Several functions in connection with Yoga Day were also held at various places in Kashmir and Ladakh divisions. In Kashmir, SSP Jail Mukesh Kumar Kakkar organized an event in this regard in the premises of Central Jail Srinagar, where officers, jail staff and CRPF personnel along with jail inmates participated in the Yoga.
Likewise, Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Union Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Bemina organized a Yoga Day even in the CRC Srinagar main campus. In Leh division, DC Leh Avny Lavasa participated in a Yoga session as the chief guest at Lamdon School, Leh. The day was jointly organized by Sports Authority of India and Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School, (LMSS) Leh. Nearly 1,500 students participated in the Yoga.
Dean Students’ Welfare, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) today organized ‘International Day of Yoga’. Yoga enthusiasts of agricultural university performed various ‘Asanas’ at Sports Complex, Chatha. The event was inaugurated by Dr KS Risam (Vice Chancellor of the University).
IIM Jammu celebrated the day at its campus. The event was coordinated by Prof Rashmi Ranjan Parida, Chairperson, Student Affairs. Session on Yoga and Pranayama was conducted by Dr Rajan, the seasoned yoga instructor from ‘The Art of Living’. All the participants benefitted from the yoga session and internalized the motto of the Day.
Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Northern Regional Campus Jammu celebrated the International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm, in collaboration with Morning Walker’s Association, Ever Green Park, Channi Himmat, Jammu wherein people from different shades of life took part in this programme. Beside Regional Director, IIMC Jammu Manohar Khajuria, Faculty member Sanjit Khajuria and other staff members of IIMC also participated in this function.
Fifth International Yoga Day was celebrated at Government College of Education, Canal Road (Jammu) with full zeal in the college premises. Yoga practitioners were invited from Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, Saink Colony to instruct and guide the participants in performing the Asanas and Pranayam. BS Slathia, Sarla Sharma, Ravi Andotra, Suchita Mengi and Veena were the resource persons on this occasion. Principal Sangita Nagari threw light on the importance of Yoga in one’s life. The entire programme was coordinated by Dr Zubair Kales, Dr Shubhra Jamwal and Assistant Prof Shapia Shamim.
The celebrations of Yoga Day also held at Government Degree College (GDC) Billawar. NSS/NCC volunteers and various college students along with the staff members participated in this event. Shabnam Khajuria, student of 6th Semester of the college delivered a demonstration lecture and aware the participants regarding various yoga asanas.
To mark the occasion, two separate sessions were conducted for boys and girls at GDC Ramban. The event started with a prayer followed by a common Yoga Protocol like Calana Kriya, Yogasanas. Different Yogasanas postures like Tadasana, Vrksasana, Pada-Hastasana, Bhadrasana etc., were demonstrated and performed.
To celebrate the occasion, a Yoha Shivir was organized at GDC RS Pura. Principal Dr Sunita Sudan, faculty members and students participated in the Yoga Shivir. The event started with the Surya Vandna. Yoga teacher Vijay Kumar taught the students how to perform the different Yogasanas and explained in detail their physical and mental importance.
The Day was also celebrated at GDC Thannamandi. A large no of NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and staff participated. Dr Mohd Ibrahim PTI of the College delivered a technical lecture and made the students aware regarding some yoga exercises and also got practical demonstration of the same by the students.
GDC Thathri organized various activities to celebrate the International Yoga Day. Students demonstrated various Asanas, followed by Omkar chanting, warm up exercises. Importance of different Yogasanas was also explained by the experts simultaneously.
Government College of Physical Education Gadoora (Ganderbal) Yoga Day event in collaboration with Central University of Kashmir (CUK), ISM (AYUSH, J&K) District Ganderbal and Government Degree College Ganderbal. More than 1000 students along with staff members of all the institutions took part in the event. Prof Mehraj Ud Din, CUK Vice Chancellor also graced the event.
NCC/NSS Units at Government PG College Rajouri celebrated International Yoga Day. A large number of students, NCC Cadets, NSS volunteers and staff members participated in the event. Capt Tanwir Ahmed, Associate NCC Officer and Yoga Expert guided the gathering in performing Yoga Asans.
Government Polytechnic, Bikram Chowk, Jammu celebrated International Yoga day in the Institute. Divya Jamwal, Yoga Instructor and her team were the resource persons on the occasion. The morning session started with some light warm up session followed by a few asana and ended with mind relaxation mediation session.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, teaching and non teaching staff Dogra College of Education, Dogra Law College, Dogra Degree College organised a Yoga camp. Secretary Dogra Educational Trust Kr. Samar Dev Singh Charak highlighted the importance of Yoga. Entire staff participated and performed few Yoga Asans.
YCET celebrated 5th International Day of Yoga with enthusiastic participation of Management and Staff members of all departments. The programme was organized to spread awareness of Yoga in all aspects. The institution has organized three sessions-Yoga, Raj Yoga and Talk on Today’s Life style.

Prof. S.K Gupta (Yoga Expert) explained that Yoga is a way of living that aims towards healthy mind in a healthy body. Prof. S.K Gupta, Dean Academics & Yoga Expert after explaining the role of yoga in our day to day life practically demonstrated a number of Asans and Pranayam.
Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research, College of Physiotherapy, Trikuta College of Education, Trikuta Degree College and Sain Institute of Paramedical Sciences under the banner of Shri Sain Charitable Trust for Higher Education and Research, Nardni-Raipur, Jammu celebrated 5th International Yoga Day. A large number of students from all the colleges participated in the Yoga Session under the guidance of Dr. Abhishek Magotra.
Institute of Engineering and Computer Sciences, Purkhoo Camp, Domana, Jammu celebrated International Yoga Day. Many students and teaching staff members performed different Asans of Yoga.
On the occasion of International Yoga Day, students of BEd at Ramisht College of Education Basohli performed different Asanas along with the faculty members of the College.
Aryans Group of Colleges celebrated International Yoga Day at Rajpura, near Chandigarh where experts talked on importance of Yoga. Yoga exercises were also performed under the guidance of experts.
MHAC School Nagbani celebrated the Day under the 1st J&K Naval Unit NCC Srinagar. NCC Naval wing cadets along with staff members of school were participated in this celebration. First Officer Ajay Bharti Sharma gave the moral lecture on Yoga and motivated the cadets for health.
The occasion was also celebrated by students and staff at DPS Leh. Various Yoga postures and Asanas including Pranayam and meditation were demonstrated before the students by the school Yoga instructors. The students were also enlightened on different benefits of Yoga. Principal, Subhash Kumar stressed on the importance of practicing Yoga.Vice-Principal, HK Sidhu, Administrator and Latika Bhatia were also present.
J&K Police organized Yoga programmes at different police establishments in which police personnel and recruits participated. Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur and Police Training Schools at Manigam, organized special Yoga programmes to aware the police staff and trainees regarding benefits of the Yoga exercises. The Yoga sessions were also organized at District Police Lines Leh and Police Station Gool in Ramban.
To celebrate the occasion, Police Technical Training Institute (PTTI) Vijaypur organized a “Lecture cum Yoga Session” in the PTTI complex for the staff and trainees. Dr. Ashok Kumar Varshney, National Organizing Secretary, Arogya Bharti was the chief guest on the occasion. He gave an impressive lecture on the Yoga and Vijay Kumar Soni, Shri Mahavir Gupta, Subash Gupta and Abishek Sharma demonstrated various yoga exercises.
Units of White Knight Corps celebrated the Day with enthusiasm to promote the ancient Indian discipline for leading a healthy lifestyle. Soldiers, their spouses and children whole heartedly participated in Yoga sessions. A large number of local youth at various Company Operating Bases in districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda showed interest in learning Yoga and participated in the event.
To mark the occasion, staff and students of Rich Harvest School, Bari Brahmana practiced Pranayams and various Asanas in a special session organized in the school. Principal Anita Bhatia encouraged students to make yogic exercises a part of their daily routine to overcome stress.
Jammu Sanskriti School Kathua celebrated the power of Yoga with the enthusiastic participation of faculty and staff. The staff members and students performed various Yogasanas under the guidance of Anuja, Master of Arts (Naturopathy and Yogic Science).
The Yoga Day was also celebrated by Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The whole program was monitored by the faculty from Arogya Bharti Sansthan Jammu. On the occasion, Principal of the school along with 1400 students participated in the event with great enthusiasm.
The day was celebrated with full fervor at BVM Higher Secondary School, Kishtwar. School students clad in colorful dresses thronged the place and took part in Yoga session organized by Patanjali Yog Simiti Kishtwar in coordination with District Coordination Committee Kishtwar.
Government Higher Secondary School Chiralla organized a symposium on “Importance and benefits of Yoga” to celebrate the occasion. A good number of students from all the four Houses threw light on the importance and benefits of practicing yoga. After symposium, Yoga Aasans were practiced by the students and staff members.
A Yoga session was also organized at Government Higher Secondary School, Trewa (Arnia). The programme was presided over by Principal, RG Dogra. All the students, staff members and locals performed various Yog Asanas. Meritorious students were awarded on the occasion. Local Sarpanch was also present on the occasion.
Government High School Chak Malal, Khour celebrated Yoga Day. Physical Education Master (PEM) Sham Krishan Singh organised the programme and apprised the students about the benefits of the Yoga. Headmaster Suversha Kumari inaugurated the programme.
The J&K Branch of the NIRC of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, celebrated the Day in association with Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, Jammu at ICAI Bhawan, Canal Road, Jammu. The chief guest on the occasion was Sat Sharma (former Minster). Vinay Saraf, Vijay Gupta Jia Lal Sharma Prana Zutshi from Bharatiya Yog Sansthan Jammu moderated the session, discussed the importance of Yoga in the modern day living and imparted useful Yoga techniques to the CAs, students and their family members.
NHPC organized 5th International Yoga Day at its Regional Office at Narwal, Jammu. On the occasion, S Tirkey, General Manager (HR), Ramesh Kumar, General Manager (Civil) and other officers and employees of NHPC were present. Aditya Sharma, the Yoga instructor from Patanjali and his colleague Tarun Sharma conducted yoga exercises.
Rashtriya Rifles based at Bhadarwah in collaboration with Bhadarwah University Campus organized a massive yoga session in University campus. Hundreds of students, besides different ranks of Army and locals participated in the event and performed various Asanas.
International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Salal Power Station, Jyotipuram with enthusiasm. On the occasion, Himanshu Shekhar, Chief General Manager, Salal Power Station, Rakesh Goel, General Manager (Civil), MG Ghai, General Manager (Civil), Suchit Tyagi, Commandant CISF, Unit Salal and other senior officers from NHPC participated in the Yoga Session at Ramleela Ground, Jyotipuram.
Regional Outreach Bureau, Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board organized a series of awareness activities for celebrating International Yoga Day at Shrine Board Sports complex, Katra. During the programme, people were made aware about benefits of practicing Yogasanas for making life stress free, disease free and productive.
Field Outreach Bureau (FOB), Kathua, of Bureau of Outreach and Communications, Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, in close coordination and cooperation with Patanjali Yog Peeth, Shri Amar Kashtriya Rajput Sabha, Samba, J&K Police and Department of Indian System of Medicines and Homeopathy organized an interactive training cum awareness camp on Yoga at Veer Bhumi Park in Samba.
The Day was also celebrated at Shri Ram Chandra Mission, Heartfulness Yoga and Meditation Centre, Seorra, Camp Gole Gujral Jammu. Zorawar Singh, general secretary, Press Club Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. Yoga students who had practiced Yagasanas with Heartfulness Wellness Yoga Teacher, Arun Jandial in the fortnight-long camp, here displayed various Yoga postures.
The Yoga Day was celebrated at District Jail Ambphalla, Jammu. Staff as well as inmates of the Jail participated in the programme under the supervision of Superintendent Jail. Inmates trained in yoga acted as guide. The Yoga session started right after the morning lockout. The inmates pledged to make yoga an internal part of their daily life.
An event in this connection was also organized at Government Middle School Bamblia, where students took part in poster making competition on the theme of International Yoga Day. The students also practiced Yoga techniques. The Yoga activities were also organized in other schools of winter zone of Pouni.
The Day was celebrated by cadets, officers and staff of NCC Directorate Jammu and Kashmir throughout the State. A total of 12 officers, 72 staff members and 11300 cadets enthusiastically performed various Yoga Asanas in Jammu, Srinagar and Leh Region today. Maj Gen NK Airy, Additional Director General NCC himself motivated the NCC cadets by personal example at NCC Camping Ground Nagrota.
On the eve of International Yoga Day, Sahyog India organized a Yoga session at its Special School Prerna Institute of Rehabilitation and Research RS Pura, Jammu under the guidance of Yoga Expert Captain Hans Raj. The special children of the school performed Yoga with full enthusiasm.
Asha Kiran Welfare Society, Janipur Colony organized a Yog Shivir in collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Jammu at devak Community Hall, Jammu. During the Shivir, various Yogasanas and Pranayam techniques were performed by the participants under the guidance of Yog experts Baba Jitoo, Dharamvir Gupta, Madan Lal and others.
Ramakrishna Mission organized a 3-day Yog Shivir in collaboration with Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan from June 19 to 21. A large number of people came forward to practice Yoga Asanas during the Shivir. During the Yog Shivir, Dharamveer, president of Bharatiya Yoga Sansthan, Jammu explained the benefits of Yoga to the participants.
JSS Jammu celebrated international Yoga Day in school premises, where students and staff members performed various Yog Asanas.
Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra, Jammu of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSSI) celebrated the Day with gaiety and fervor. On the occasion, an open house of guided meditation was conducted wherein meditation techniques viz pranayama in equal count, double breathing and visualization exercises were demonstrated to participating devotees as per the guidelines of YSSI.
The fifth International Yoga Day was celebrated in Jammu wherein around 500 people assembled at Peer Kho Mandir Ground to participate in a Yoga session. Chief guests on the occasion were Yudhvir Sethi, BJP State General Secretary and Priya Sethi, former Minister. Councillors Anil Masoon, Narottam Sharma and others also participated. Speaking on the occasion Priya Sethi said that Yoga should be made a compulsory subject in schools.
Various armed and police forces today celebrated Yoga Day. D-Company SSB Khellani celebrated Yoga Day at GHSS School Khellani with school teachers and students. Dr. Gopal Sachdev, Asst. Surgeon Veterinary, SSB and Jagdish Ram Bhat, Asstt. Commandant, D-Company Khellani & 45 Jawans of SSB along with 185 students and 16 school teachers attended the programme.
District Police Lines Leh celebrated International Yoga Day at DPL Choglamsar.
On International Yoga Day, District Jail Leh organized a Yoga programme in which all the inmates, CRPF personnel and jail staff participated.
Jammu Division Employees of New India Assurance Company joined entire nation in celebrating International Yoga Day at their Gandhi Nagar office. It was also celebrated at their various offices all across J&K. About 50 employees besides other senior citizens took part in this event which was conducted by O.P Dour, Yoga Instructor.
Yoga Instructor, Rajan Salalia, from Art of Living delivered lecture on Yoga and practised meditation, stress relief exercises among Airports Authority of India employees at Jammu Airport.
Shape ‘n’ Smile- The Fitness Studio celebrated International Yoga Day-2019 at its newly opened branch in Talab Tillo. Women from different parts of Jammu took part in this event. Different Yoga Asans & postures were performed under the guidance of trained Yoga Instructors.
In order to aware police staff and trainees regarding the benefits of Yoga exercises, Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur celebrated International Yoga Day. On this occasion Anuja Jasrotia, Yoga Expert, Therapist and Professional was invited at the Academy to teach Yoga exercises to staff and trainees. Mohd Sulaiman Salaria, Director SKPA Udhampur talked on importance of Yoga exercises and benefits thereof.
International Yoga Day was observed at 400 locations of Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation across the country. In Jammu the Yoga Camp was held at Sant Nirankari Satsang Bhawan Shastri Nagar in collaboration with Arogya Bharti J&K.
On International Yoga Day, Yoga exercises were performed by the participants of Arya Samaj Youth Camp under the supervision of Yoga instructor, Sourav Gupta from Kendriya Arya Yuvak Parishad, New Delhi. Gupta talked about all round fitness, loss of weight, relief from stress, inner peace, improving immunity, better relationship etc.
Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society celebrated International Yoga Day today at Trikuta Nagar colony. Professor Uma Sharma, Yoga Instructor and her team demonstrated tips and benefits of Yoga to the gathering. She also talked on how to get relief from all fitness problems.
On the occasion of 5th International Yoga Day, Yoga exercises were undertaken by staff and students of Government HSS Mandal Phallian under the guidance and supervision of Principal, Jagdish Raj Sharma.
Sanatan Dharma Higher Secondary Kanya Vidayala Jullaka Mohalla Jammu celebrated International Yoga Day where Asans were preformed under the supervision of Yoga Expert, Pooja Bagal.
NCC Cadets of Government Higher Secondary School Pouni celebrated 5th International Yoga Day where Vikas Sharma, Yoga Expert performed various Asans and briefed cadets about benefits of Yoga.
International Day of Yoga was celebrated at Sainik School Nagrota by the officers, staff and their families with great enthusiasm. The Yoga session was conducted by Parshotam Kumar, Staff Instructor. Various techniques which included deep breathing exercises, strengthening and stretching poses were demonstrated and practiced by all.
Aadarsh Bhartiya Samaj, a social organisation celebrated International Yoga Day at Bhour Camp. On this occasion speakers told that Yoga is a pure and complete science. It has all tools and techniques which heals our body, mind and soul like nectar.
Jammu Club celebrated International Day of Yoga wherein Club Secretary, Rattandeep Singh Anand in collaboration with Bharatiya Yog Sansthan held Yoga classes for its members in Club premises. The management and members of the Club took a pledge to inculcate Yoga in their daily lives to achieve the goal of a healthy and fit society.
Rotary Club Jammu in association with Vidyamandir Classes organised a Yoga Camp on International Yoga Day at Bahu Plaza with Yoga Instructors Brij Bhushan and Neelam Maini guiding over 150 people to live healthy life by Yoga.
The Rising Star Corps and ‘Tiger Division’ of Army celebrated International Day of Yoga wherein major events were organised at all stations of ‘Tiger Division. All ranks participated with great fervour and high spirit. The exercises were performed as per the Common Yoga Protocol in all the stations of ‘Tiger Division’ and Rising Star Corps.
Similarly, the Yoga session was organised at DPL Doda where people of all sections of the society and students in large numbers participated.
In Ladakh, Army organised a major event on International Yoga Day at world highest battle field Saichen.
