JAMMU, Dec 22: Nirvana Academy organised 5th season of Pandit Uma Dutt Sangeet Mahootsav to pay tributes to Late Pandit Uma Dutt Sharma, great musician at auditorium of Government Polytechnic College, Bikram Chowk.
Programme started with the musical contest in classical vocal, classical instrumental, folk song, light song and light instrumental categories followed by the mesmerized performances by the children of all ages.
During the contest about 110 participants in solo, duet and group category from different areas of the Jammu region took part and expressed their talent.
Krishan Lal Verma, Tabla maestro and disciple of Pandit Uma Dutt Sharma and noted instrumentalist cum vocalist Puran Singh Wazir were the jury members.
Hitesh Badyal, President, Nirvana Academy threw light on the life and achievements of Pandit Uma Dutt Sharma. Pandit ji was one of the few artists from Jammu, who used to give performances in vocal music from Lahore Music Station.
He said that the main motive to organise Sangeet Mahootsav is to promote and preserve different forms of folk music, Indian classical music and to explore hidden talent in the youth of the State so that they can be able to compete with the other talented youth of the country.
Narinder Singh Jamwal, Ex-Mayor, State Awardees Praduman Singh Jindrahia, Suresh Sharma, Ravi Sharma, Varinder Raina, Deepak Sharma, Anmol Amla, Neeraj Sharma, Meenakshi Sharma and Nishant Vaid are among the main members of organising body.
