Militant module busted, 4 held

Srinagar, Mar 23: Police in Srinagar today busted a grenade throwing module and arrested four militant associates while seven persons including six police men were injured in a grenade attack in the city this evening.

Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar, said here that this evening during a naka checking at Bemina Chowk, one Over Ground Worker Zubair Sheikh son of Altaf Sheikh of Elahi Bagh Soura was intercepted by police party and on his search one hand grenade was recovered from his possession.
He said that the accused was arrested on the spot and a case (FIR no 15/2022 under Sections 7/25 of Indian Arms Act and section 13 of UAPA) was registered at Police Station Bemina and investigation was taken up.
“The accused was put to sustained examination and during questioning he revealed that he had received this grenade from another OGW Shamim Ahmed Chilloo son of Abdul Kareem Chilloo of Tankipora Shaheed Gunj. This accused confessed that he had received a consignment of four hand grenades and handed over one grenade each to Amir Rehman Dar son of Abdul Rehman Dar of Tengpura Bypass, Shahid Ahmed Mir son of Gulzar Ahmed Mir of Dangerpora Nowgam and one to Zubair Sheikh.
“Later raids were conducted on these locations and three OGWs were also arrested and on their instances three more hand grenades were also recovered.
“During course of investigation, it came out that the arrested accused were working on directions of the militants of LeT,” he added.
He said that Zubair Sheikh was on his way to throw the recovered hand grenade today evening, the plans were thwarted by timely preventive action of naka party.
In the meantime, at least seven persons including three policemen, two traffic cops, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man and a civilian were injured in a grenade attack at Rainawari area of Srinagar this evening
An official said that militants lobbed a grenade towards a naka party in Rainawari area this evening.
The incident resulted in injuries to seven persons, who have been identified as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Fayaz Ahmad, Head Constable Muhammad Amin, SPO Shabir Ahmad, Fayaz Ahmad Shah, Shabir Ahmad Dar-both traffic cops, CRPF constable Tirath Singh e-coy 82 battalion and a 28-year-old civilian Zahid Hussain Dar.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment where from two traffic cops and three policemen were referred to SMHS hospital for specialized treatment.
The areas has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
