6 die of COVID in J&K, 39 UK returnees test -ve

Positive youth to be sent to Delhi for test

JAMMU, Dec 26: Six persons died of COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir while 249 tested positive for the virus and 369 others recovered today.
Out of 40 persons of Jammu, who recently reached here from the United Kingdom and were under surveillance for virus, 39 have tested negative during last two days while a youth from Roop Nagar has tested positive.
GMC Jammu Principal Dr Shashi S Sudhan told the Excelsior that the COVID positive youth from Roop Nagar is being sent to New Delhi for Sequencer test which would detect new kind of mutation detected in the United Kingdom.
Of four casualties in Jammu region, two were reported from Jammu district and one each from Doda and Poonch districts.
A 60-year-old man from Rehari Colony died of COVID-19 complications in Max Hospital New Delhi where he was undergoing treatment for the virus while a 78-year-old man from Digiana in Jammu district died of co-morbidities and pathogen in ASCOMS Sidhra.
A 65-year-old woman from Potha in Poonch district succumbed to the virus in Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri while 60-year-old man from Aul in Doda district breathed his last due to multiple ailments and COVID in the GMC Doda.
With four deaths today, Corona toll in Jammu region has reached 690, the highest being 352 in Jammu district followed by 62 Doda, 57 Udhampur, 54 Rajouri, 48 Kathua, 38 Samba, 23 Poonch, 21 each Kishtwar and Ramban and 14 in Reasi district.
Jammu region reported 126 new positive cases, 96 of them in Jammu district alone today. Rest of the districts had new cases in single digits including seven each in Rajouri and Ramban districts, five Doda, four each Reasi and Kathua, two Udhampur and one in Poonch district. No fresh cases were reported in Kishtwar and Samba districts,
As many as 203 recoveries were reported in Jammu region today including 95 in Jammu district, 33 Samba, 18 Udhampur, 17 each Kathua and Ramban, 12 Rajouri, 10 Doda and one in Poonch district. No recoveries were reported from Kishtwar and Reasi districts.
Today’s positive cases have taken Jammu’s Corona count to 49417 including 1622 active positives while 47105 have recoveries from the virus and there have been 690 casualties.
Meanwhile, two persons died of COVID-19 in Kashmir today, taking the death toll in Jammu and Kashmir to 1867 while 123 people tested positive.
The victims include a 78-year-old man from Fatehkadal area of Srinagar and a 70-year-old man from Plan in district Bandipora.
With these deaths, the total fatality count in J&K has reached 1867-1177 in the Valley.
Srinagar district with 445 deaths topped the list followed by Baramulla 170, Budgam 107, Kupwara 90, Pulwama 88, Anantnag 83, Bandipora 60, Kulgam 53, Ganderbal 43 and Shopian 37.
And in Kashmir, 123 people tested positive for Coronavirus today, taking the J&K tally to 119,877.
Those who tested positive include 49 Srinagar, 8 Baramulla, 15 Budgam, 10 Kupwara, 9 Pulwama, 8 Anantnag, 2 Bandipora, 8 Ganderbal, 4 Kulgam and 10 from Shopian.
