6 drug peddlers nabbed, contraband seized

SRINAGAR, May 7: The J&K Police today apprehended six drug peddlers in Baramulla, Budgam and Kulgam districts.
The arrests, police said, were made following the recovery of a substantial amount of psychotropic substances from their possession.
In Baramulla, the police acted upon intelligence inputs and established a checkpoint at Chinar Crossing Pattan.
“During the operation, a police party led by SHO Police Station Pattan, under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohd Nawaz, intercepted two individuals who attempted to evade the authorities but were tactfully apprehended.”
Upon searching the suspects, the police recovered 210 SpasmoProxyvon Plus capsules and 7 Syrups of Codeine Phosphate.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Sheikh and Ashiq Ahmad Khanday, both residents of Bazar Mohalla Pattan, police said.
Similarly, in Boniyar, officers from PS Boniyar successfully nabbed a wanted drug peddler, Abdul Qayoom Ganie, during a naka-checking operation at Boniyar Market.
“The police recovered approximately 45 grams of a substance resembling Brown Sugar from his possession.”
In Budgam, a police checkpoint positioned at Hyderpora Bypass Flyover intercepted a Swift vehicle with two occupants on board.
“The driver attempted to evade the authorities but was swiftly pursued and apprehended. Subsequent search operations revealed the recovery of 24 bottles of psychotropic substances,” police said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Saleem Yousuf and Fazil Iqbal, residents of Syed Hyder Colony Hyderpora Srinagar and Hyderpora, respectively.
In another operation in Kulgam, a vigilant police party headed by the SHO, PS Kulgam intercepted a suspicious person at the Adpora crossing. “Despite attempting to flee, the suspect was apprehended skillfully,” police said.
Upon searching him, the police discovered 11 Codeine Phosphate bottles in his possession. “The individual has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Malik, also known as Alias Gama, a resident of Bongam, Kulgam.”
Police said that all the arrested individuals are currently in police custody, and the vehicles used in the commission of these crimes have been seized.
