6 grenades found outside QAT bunker

Srinagar, Sept 13: At least six grenades were found near a bunker of Quick Action Team (QAT) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along the National Highway in Bemina area of Srinagar today.
An official said that after finding something suspicious near the QAT bunker of 28 battalion of CRPF in Bemina area of Srinagar on NH-44, a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team was called immediately.

They said that a BDS squad of 73 battalion reached the spot, and nearly six to seven grenades were found near the QAT bunker.
“During the routine road opening exercise, along NH 44, the alert troopers of 73 battalion recovered 6 Chinese grenades from a sandbag placed on the divider of the road. The alertness of troops averted an incident on the busy highway,” the official said.
“Since, there was a lot of rush on the highway, the grenades were not demolished in-situ. The grenades were handed over to the police for disposal,” he said.
Meanwhile, a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba was apprehended by a joint team of forces at a Naka checking in Pachhaar area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
Police said that acting on specific inputs about militant movement, a joint team of security forces laid a Naka in Pachhaar area of Pulwama this evening.
“During checking at naka, a militant of LeT was apprehended,” the official said and identified the arrested militant as Ishfaq Ahmad Dar of Kothipora, Chatergam Nowgam in district Budgam.
“One grenade besides other ammunition has been recovered from his possession,” the official said, adding that police have taken cognisance of the issue and further investigation has been set into motion.
