6 hurt in attack by land grabbers

RAJOURI, Apr 29: Two female SPOs and one Assistant Sub-Inspector among six cops were injured when  a policy party was attacked by family members of a retired revenue official who had allegedly encroached upon land of a militancy victim and torched her shelter in remote Raj Nagar Budhal, around 60 kms from Rajouri town.
The incident took place late last night and Police have arrested the accused involved in encroachment as well as attack. The miscreants included a retired Girdawar, his wife, two sons and a daughter, who could be overpowered and arrested only after additional forces were rushed to the spot.
Reports said that acting on a complaint by one Jagti Devi wife of late Hans Raj, who was killed by militants, a police party from Budhal Police Station proceeded for necessary action against Girdawar Salam Din who had forcibly occupied one room Kaccha house of the complainant at Raj Nagar.
As soon as  the police party, led by Acting SHO, Dy SP  Sheikh Sajjad reached near the site late last night, the accused Girdawar and his family members first set the occupied house on fire and then started pelting stones on the cops.
In the stone pelting, ASI Ashfaq, Head Constable Fareed, Head Constable Zakir, SPO Ameen, SPO Shabnam and SPO Satya sustained injuries.
On getting information of attack on police party, SP Rajouri Mubassar Latifi rushed additional forces from Kotranka Police Station, led by SHO Haji Bashir. The accused continued pelting stones on the police party for more than two hours before being  overpowered and arrested.
Their identity was established as Ex Girdwar Salam Din, his wife Dillo Begum, daughter Maroofa Begum and two sons Sultan Mehmood and Mohd Iqbal.
Police have registered separate FIRs in this connection and arrested the accused under Section 436, 452, 427, 382, 117 and 148.
