6 hurt in cylinder blast

MENDHAR, Apr 6: A lecturer of Govt College for Women, Parade Ground (Jammu) and her five other family members were injured when an LPG cylinder caught fire and exploded during a marriage function at village Saruti in Ari area of tehsil Mendhar in district Poonch today.
A police spokesman said that there was marriage of Amtiaz Ahmed, son of Mohd Sher at Saruti tomorrow. The relatives had gathered at the marriage function. At around 10.30 am suddenly, an LPG cylinder caught fire and two-three women of the family who were in the kitchen got trapped in flames. Imtiaz and Inqlab Ahmed rushed inside for their help but the cylinder exploded causing serious injuries to at least six members of the family.
It was around 10.30 am and the injured were rushed to Mendhar hospital. Three women received nearly 80 % burn injuries while bridegroom and two others nearly 30 to 50 % burns.
The injured were identified as Shakeela Bi (Lecturer Parade College), wife of Executive Engineer Mohd Sadiq, Maksooda Bi (Teacher), wife of Ghulam Sarwar of Saruti, Mansha Bi, wife of Mohd Sher ( brother of XEn), son Imtiaz, Inqlab Ahmed, son of Jannat Hussain of Gohlad Mendhar and Kulsoom Bi, Inqlab Ahmed of Gohlad. Kulsoom was in SDH Mendhar while all others were referred to GMC Hospital, Jammu. The condition of Shakeela, Maksooda and Mansha was said to be serious.
