SRINAGAR, June 19: Two women were among six employees of Health Department injured when police cane charged them while they were on a march to gherao secretariat today.
Scores of employees under the banner Hospital Development Forum were heading towards Secretariat when police intercepted them at Lal Chowk and cane charged them.
“We were marching peacefully towards secretariat to protest for our demands but police used batons on us in which six employees were injured,” said a protestor.
“They even did not spare women protestors. Some police men misbehaved with them and beat them with canes,” he said.
The employees were demanding regularization of their services. They have been working on paltry salary in the Health Department on Hospital Development Fund.
Dozens of protestors were bundled into police vans and taken to different police stations in the city and later released.
